I believe that while we are alive in this world, we have to take a stand. I have chosen mine and it’s women’s rights.

Below you will find my research that explores feminist activism as well as issues affecting women and their rights worldwide. As well as some other interesting topics!

Title: Voices of Resistance: Women’s Activism in the Face of Authoritarianism in Turkey

Abstract: This study examines the consequences of the backlash against gender equality on feminist NGOs in Türkiye. Employing qualitative methods and a quantitative survey, this research addresses three key themes. First, it examines both the historical context and present-day political factors driving the backlash and the backsliding of women’s rights in the country. Second, it explores the challenges Turkish women face as a result of the entrenched patriarchy and gender roles, as these challenges have become the central focus of feminist NGOs’ projectification. Third, it shows how these NGOs continue their work amid growing government restrictions. The study finds that feminist NGOs in Türkiye exhibit characteristics of both projectified organizations and social movements, using projectification to sustain their activities in the context of backlash, while simultaneously functioning as part of a broader feminist movement to advance their large-scale demands for ending gender-based violence and discrimination. This dual approach distinguishes them from the commonly conceptualized feminist NGOs in the MENA region, which are more narrowly focused on projectification without pursuing a larger feminist agenda to addresss tructural inequalities.

Title: Place of Encounter: How does the level of generalized trust mitigate the impacts of migration-related gentrification in Samaipata, Bolivia?

Abstract: This study explores the links between migration, trust, and gentrification in Samaipata, Bolivia, a town characterized by its unique history of cultural integration and its imaginary of “rural idyll”. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research delves into Samaipata’s identity as a Place of Encounter that influences lifestyle migration patterns, contributing to rural gentrification processes. The study finds that the town’s ethnic diversity has led to Samaipataños having a higher level of generalized trust, which partly enabled the residents to cope with the economic implications of gentrification through agreements of reciprocity and community cohesion. In regards to the cultural implications – despite Samaipata’s long-standing history of migration – the residents fear the cultural identity of the town will get lost. This raises a crucial question: for how long can Samaipata’s trusting culture help residents cope with rural gentrification?
